How we vet crews

Here is exactly what we check before we introduce a crew, and what we don't promise.

  • ✓

    Certificate of insurance on file

Every crew must upload a current certificate of insurance (COI) before we introduce them. We check the business name and the policy dates on the certificate.

  • ✓

Minnesota license, where the trade needs one

If the work needs a state license (roofing, for example, needs a DLI roofer or residential contractor license), we look up the number the crew gives us on the Minnesota DLI public license lookup. Some trades, like clearing or landscape earthwork, may need no state license; then we note that instead.

  • ✓

    References

We ask for references from recent jobs and contact them before a crew's first introduction.

  • ✓

    Signed Crew Referral Agreement

Each crew agrees in writing to work as an independent business, keep its license and insurance current, and tell us if either lapses.

  • ✓

    Homeowner check-ins after the job

After an introduction, homeowners can tell us if the job started, finished or didn't happen. Problems reported here affect whether we keep introducing that crew.

What we don't guarantee

  • ✕We don't guarantee any crew's work, price, schedule or warranty. Your contract is with the crew.
  • ✕A certificate of insurance shows coverage on the day it was issued. Policies can lapse or change, so ask the crew for a fresh COI for your job.
  • ✕License lookups show status on the day we check, not every day after.
  • ✕We don't inspect work on site, supervise crews, or hold your payments.
  • ✕We don't check every possible permit or code item for your project. The crew and your local building office handle that.

Before you hire anyone: check the license yourself at the DLI lookup, get a written contract, and ask for a current COI.
